Developing Every Student’s Path to Success
- One of the most important investments we can make is in our students. That is why we are strengthening academic advising across our colleges to provide more personalized support and meaningful connections throughout the student experience. More proactive guidance will help students navigate challenges, stay on track and reach their academic goals. Every student deserves to know someone is invested in their success, and this initiative reflects UA’s commitment to supporting students every step of the way.
- Student success takes many forms. This summer, senior accounting major and swimmer Sydney Blackhurst earned first place in the SEC Startup Competition for her Beyond Barriers Swim Foundation, which provides adaptive swim lessons for children with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Her achievement reflects the leadership, innovation and service-minded spirit we strive to cultivate in our students.
- On Aug. 1, we will celebrate another outstanding class of University of Alabama graduates. Commencement is a proud reminder of why we do this work. Congratulations to our graduates, and thank you to the faculty, staff, families and friends whose encouragement and support helped them reach this milestone.
Serving Our Campus and Our State
- A culture of respect, care and responsibility is central to who we are as a University. As we prepare for a new academic year, I encourage everyone to review our Title IX policy and become familiar with the many resources available to support a safe and welcoming environment.
- That dedication to our campus community is reflected in the leadership of our University of Alabama Police Department. This summer, UAPD Chief Scott Thurmond graduated from the FBI National Academy, one of the nation’s premier leadership programs for law enforcement professionals. The experience will further strengthen the department’s efforts to protect and serve our community.
- Through our University Medical Center, UA is expanding access to high-quality healthcare for our campus and West Alabama communities. New services introduced this summer, including lifestyle medicine and expanded women’s healthcare, demonstrate our ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes across the region.
- Our focus on serving others extends well beyond campus. This summer, the College of Community Health Sciences celebrated five years of its Tuscaloosa Rural Pre-Medical Internship, which helps prepare future physicians to serve rural communities where access to healthcare is needed most. It is another example of how The University of Alabama is improving lives across our state.
