Leading the Way
Every day on campus reminds me why I am grateful to serve this community. It is in the wave between students crossing the Quad, the late-night lights in a research lab and the faculty member inspiring a student to see their own potential. These small moments, multiplied across thousands of people, create the larger story of The University of Alabama — a university built on connection, purpose and pride.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Mohlers!
Enhancing Operations
This semester, several areas that report to my executive cabinet are taking part in organizational reviews to help us strengthen our operations as we continue to serve and support our campus community. This past month, we made organizational updates to our Division of Finance and Operations. This month, due to recent leadership changes, we will review three additional divisions — Academic Affairs; Community Affairs; and Opportunities, Connections, and Success — to prepare for transitions and next steps. These evaluations will help ensure the University continues to achieve its mission efficiently and effectively. If any changes result from this work, we will share updates with you in the spring semester.
Community in Action
- With the approval and support of The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, we are creating The University of Alabama School of Leadership and Policy — a bold step in preparing the next generation of innovators and public servants. From its home in Farrah Hall, the School will reflect what leadership and service mean at UA, uniting theory and practice to strengthen communities and inspire principled leaders who will shape the future of our state and nation.
- The Culverhouse College of Business has renamed its hallmark professional development program as the R. James Kelly LEAD Program, honoring alumnus Jim Kelly and his family’s longstanding commitment to student success. Their generous support will ensure that generations of Alabama students continue to benefit from mentoring, leadership training and community engagement that prepare them to make a difference.
Moments of Pride
- Lights! Crimson! Action! Homecoming 2025 captured the unmistakable spirit of the Capstone — from a legendary astronaut leading the parade to the energy of the Roll Tide Run, the excitement of the pep rally and bonfire, and the roar of fans filling Bryant-Denny Stadium. Just as impressive were the students on the Homecoming Board and committees who made it all possible, managing logistics and executing every detail with creativity and a love for UA that made the celebration unforgettable.
- I am immensely proud of the incredible achievements of our faculty and staff this fall, with international fellowships, distinguished professorships, groundbreaking research and creative milestones that reflect their talents and ambitions. Their work continues to expand opportunity, inspire excellence and advance our mission.
Supporting Our Students
- As we approach the final month of the semester, I want every UA student to know this: you are not alone, and you are being equipped for doing well. Whether you are preparing for exams, planning for the holidays or taking time to recharge, remember that support is all around you — and this community is cheering you on every step of the way!
- This fall, I reaffirm our shared commitment to maintaining a campus defined by respect, safety and civility. Each of us plays a role in preventing sexual misconduct, supporting those impacted and ensuring that our community remains a place where everyone can thrive. Title IX policy and resources→
Voices of UA

“Coming from out of state, I wanted a community of intelligent and kind individuals who would push me to become a better person. Fellows seemed like a great fit for that. Through Witt Fellows, I was able to learn the value of seeking to understand. This program showed me how to relate and empathize with others who are different than me, and why that’s important.”
— UA Senior Luke Adams, Robert E. Witt Fellows Program cohort member
