Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
Welcome back! As we begin the Spring 2026 Semester, The University of Alabama continues to move forward with purpose. New ideas are taking shape, important work is underway and our shared commitment to teaching, research and service remains at the center of all we do.
Our focus is clear: supporting student success and ensuring our campus is a place where people are encouraged and inspired to do their best work. That shared pursuit of excellence reflects who we are and what we stand for.
I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the months ahead.
Dr. Peter J. Mohler
Focused on Your Success
- Students, start the spring semester with a plan. Whether you are exploring majors, preparing for internships, improving your writing or mapping out your next academic step, I encourage you to take advantage of the incredible campus resources available to you — like the UA Career Center, the Writing Center, and the many faculty and staff who are ready to help you excel.
- Congratulations to our 2026 Capitol Scholars. The 10 outstanding students selected for this year’s program will serve and learn in Washington, D.C. Their achievement reflects the talent, drive and leadership we see across our student body.
- The UA men’s basketball team opened conference play with a strong win over Kentucky over the weekend and our women’s team continues an impressive start with a a 15-1 overall record. We also congratulate Doris Lemngole, who was recently honored with The Bowerman, collegiate track and field’s highest individual award. We appreciate the hard work and commitment all our student-athletes bring to representing our campus.
- Let’s stay connected! Stop by our next Mornings with Mohler coffee and conversation on Jan. 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Student Center Great Hall. I look forward to meeting many of you there.
Strengthening Our Academic Mission
- We have launched a national search for our next provost — a key leader who will help guide our academic excellence and align resources and programs to fulfill our educational promise. We are grateful to Dr. Lesley Reid for her steady leadership during this interim period.
- Thank you, faculty and staff, for the countless ways you support our students and help them start the semester with confidence and momentum. Your good work makes all the difference for our community.
Voices of UA

“Winning the Marshall Scholarship validates that I am on the right path. In education and international affairs, the problems you face often feel so big that you have no hope of solving them. While I like to think that I have gotten good at persevering through the uncertainty, having this marker that I have done something worthwhile for Tuscaloosa and the world means a lot to me.”
– Addison Miller, a UA senior from Birmingham and one of 43 Americans selected as a 2026 Marshall Scholar — UA’s fourth Marshall Scholar since 2020.
