Record Enrollment Marks Our Momentum to Lead

Leading the Way

Every day at The University of Alabama I see how individual effort becomes collective impact. A student’s determination, a professor’s discovery and a staff member’s commitment each strengthen a community whose reach grows with every new member. This fall’s record enrollment is not just a milestone; it is momentum. Together we are shaping a future that is bold, impactful and distinctly Alabama. Our purpose defines us, and it is the foundation on which we will continue to advance and lead.‌‌‌

Let’s Talk, Students

You spoke up — and we listened. Our Crimson Ride apartment shuttle routes are back on timed schedules, giving off-campus students more reliable service. It is a simple change, but it makes a real difference in your daily routine. I will be keeping an eye on how it works this semester, and I encourage you to keep sharing what is working and what isn’t.

Moments of Pride

Enrollment reached a record 42,360 this fall, with in-state growth topping 4% and a freshman class featuring 362 National Merit Scholars — affirming UA’s strength as Alabama’s flagship.

We celebrate alumnus Rance M. Sanders and his family for their extraordinary generosity. From the endowed scholarship that has already lifted students with financial need, to his recent $5 million gift naming the real estate program in Culverhouse, the Sanders legacy will inspire and empower generations at the Capstone.

This summer, 473 undergraduate students earned recognition on the Dean’s List (GPA 3.5 or higher) or the President’s List (a perfect 4.0). Their success is a powerful reminder of the talent and determination driving our University forward.

On the Horizon

Suicide Awareness Week (Oct. 13-19): I encourage students, faculty and staff to take part in walks, workshops and campus activities that remind us we are not alone. Our community is strongest when we show up for one another.
‌UA’s Department of Theatre and Dance is launching an exciting 2025-2026 season of plays, musicals and dance concerts. These productions give our students the stage to share their talent and passion in powerful ways. I look forward to attending performances, and I hope you will join me in supporting their work.

Voices of UA

Melinda Wallace and Ciara Andrew“UA First has been such a big part of my journey here. My mentor, Melinda Wallace — a UA alum and former first-gen student — has guided me since freshman year. I often reach out to her for advice, and her success in a male-dominated industry inspires me as both a first-gen student and a woman in operations management.”
