Leading the Way
Pride at The University of Alabama shows up not just on game days but in the way we learn, serve and lead. It is something we live every day. It is reflected in the passion our faculty, staff and students bring to their work, in the care our community shows for one another and in the discoveries that carry our impact far beyond campus. Together we are proving that pride and purpose go hand in hand.

Community in Action
- One of the things I value most about our campus is how deeply we care for our neighbors. The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger drive, now in its 32nd year, shows that spirit in action. Through Nov. 20, students, faculty and staff are joining forces to support the West Alabama Food Bank, turning a good-natured rivalry into something that truly matters (and of course, we plan to beat Auburn).
- On Oct. 19 at 5 p.m., our campus community is invited to join others across Tuscaloosa for the Out of the Darkness Walk at the Student Center Plaza, raising awareness for suicide prevention and showing that at UA, we care deeply for one another.
Moments of Pride
- Few things make me prouder than seeing our students recognized for their talent and passion. The Million Dollar Band has been selected as one of only 10 bands nationwide to perform in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® in 2026, a fitting recognition of the students’ skills, discipline and unmistakable Alabama spirit.
- I also want to recognize the Capstone College of Nursing, where our students train in a state-of-the-art simulation center. Through immersive, AI-driven experiences, they are gaining skills and confidence to lead through crisis, deliver exceptional patient care and shape the future of health care in Alabama.
- The Shakespeare Association of America has chosen UA as its new home, expanding opportunities for our students and enhancing our national leadership in the humanities.
On the Horizon
- Students, helping you prepare for success, both in your first job and every step that follows, is central to our mission. The Career Center offers resources and tools, including How NOT to Lose a Job in 90 Days, happening Nov. 12 at noon in the Student Center. It is a great opportunity to learn what employers expect and build professionalism that leads to long-term success.
- Graduate School enrollment surpassed 6,200 this fall, setting another record and reflecting the growing number of students continuing their education here. If graduate school is part of your path, explore the possibilities at Grad School 101: Navigating the Graduate School Process tomorrow from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in the Student Center. The session will cover timelines, key documents and next steps to help you move forward with confidence.
Voices of UA
Allison Tarpley is a senior C&IS student and Million Dollar Band color guard member who will perform next year when the band appears in the 2026 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®.

“The Macy’s Day Parade is held in such high regard because it is such a coveted thing for marching bands. It’s just a really special thing to do. Preparation is a lot different than what you see on game day on the field, so it’s going to take a lot of focus and practice. I am so excited!”
